DENTAL VENEERS
A smile that still looks like you.
Custom dental veneers in Denver's Washington Park.
Thinking about changing the shape, color, or edges of your teeth? Dental veneers may be an option. Start with a conversation with Dr. Kyger about what you’d like to change and what you’d like to keep.
Veneers are thin coverings bonded to the front of teeth. They change the visible surface rather than replace the entire tooth.
The goal isn’t to give everyone the same smile. Tell us whether you’re looking for a subtle change to one tooth or a more coordinated change across several teeth.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO CHANGE?
Start with the details you notice.
A consultation is a chance to talk about the result you have in mind. The exam helps determine whether veneers are appropriate or another approach makes more sense.
Veneers may help improve:
- Chipped or uneven edges
- Discoloration you would like to address
- Teeth that look too short or uneven in shape
- Small gaps between teeth
- Some minor irregularities in the appearance of alignment
Changing the appearance of alignment is not the same as moving teeth or correcting a bite. Ask which option is right for your situation.
AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE CONVERSATION
Know what changes before you decide.
Veneer preparation can involve removing enamel. Once enamel is removed, it does not grow back, so treatment should be approached as a long-term commitment, not a temporary cosmetic change.
Healthy teeth and gums come first.
Decay or gum disease needs to be addressed before veneers are placed. Clenching, grinding, and some bite patterns can also affect whether veneers are a good choice.
Ask about the alternatives.
Depending on the concern, whitening, bonding, or another treatment may be worth discussing. You don’t need to arrive already knowing which option to choose.
WHAT TO EXPECT
A plan built around your teeth.
The number of visits and preparation involved depend on the type of veneer and your treatment plan. Ask about the full timeline before getting started.
01 / CONSULTATION
Discuss your goals.
Discuss what bothers you, what you like about your smile, and the result you hope to achieve. Dr. Kyger will evaluate your teeth, gums, and bite.
02 / DESIGN AND PREPARATION
Plan the details.
Review the proposed material, shade, and shape, along with any enamel preparation. Ask how the veneers will be made and whether temporary restorations will be needed.
03 / FIT AND BONDING
Check the fit.
The veneers are checked and bonded to the teeth. You’ll receive care instructions and should let the team know if your bite does not feel right afterward.
MATERIALS AND EXPECTATIONS
Ask which material fits your plan.
Porcelain and composite have different strengths and trade-offs. Confirm which options are available and recommended for your case.
Porcelain veneers
Porcelain veneers are custom-made thin shells fitted to the front of the teeth. They can offer a natural appearance and resistance to wear, but they can still chip or need replacement.
Composite veneers
Composite uses tooth-colored resin. It may involve less enamel removal and can be easier to repair, but it is generally less resistant to staining and wear than porcelain.
We’ll help you weigh appearance, preparation, repair, and maintenance rather than choosing a material by name alone.
COST AND PLANNING
Get a clear estimate first.
The cost depends on the number of teeth, material, and any care needed before veneers are placed. Ask for an itemized estimate and discuss payment options before committing.
Do not assume your insurance will cover the treatment. Ask your plan and the team about your specific benefits.
CARING FOR YOUR VENEERS
Your teeth still need daily care.
Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth daily. The teeth underneath and around veneers can still develop cavities.
Avoid chewing hard objects, discuss grinding or clenching with your dentist, and follow the care instructions for your restorations.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions about dental veneers.
Start with an exam and a conversation about your goals. The condition of your teeth and gums, your bite, and habits such as grinding all matter. Veneers are one option, not the automatic answer to every cosmetic concern.
When enamel is removed for veneers, that change is not reversible. Ask exactly how much preparation is planned and what ongoing maintenance or replacement could involve before proceeding.
Not necessarily. Treatment may involve one tooth or several, depending on your goals and the appearance of the surrounding teeth. Dr. Kyger can explain the options for a balanced result.
Veneers can change how some minor alignment irregularities look, but they do not move teeth or correct every bite problem. Ask whether a different treatment would better address the underlying concern.
A veneer primarily covers the front of a tooth. A crown covers more of the tooth and may be recommended when it needs structural support. The appropriate choice depends on the tooth and the reason for treatment.
There is no guaranteed lifespan. Material, bite, habits, and home care all affect how a veneer holds up. Veneers can chip, wear, or loosen and may eventually need repair or replacement.
Tell us. Whitening or bonding may be worth discussing depending on the concern. We can compare the options and explain the trade-offs before you decide on veneers.
